Halfway up the road from Siliguri to Darjeeling, a town of tea estates and white orchids; its Lepcha name is usually read as 'land of the white orchid'. The toy train runs right through the bazaar, and the Makaibari and Castleton estates grow some of the hills' best-known teas.
Once we're live, expect tea-estate walks and tastings, forest trails around Dow Hill, heritage-railway rides, and the small cultural events the town keeps through the year.
